How to Prevent My Chickens From Roosting in Trees
- 1). Sit down with the chicken in your lap. Position the chicken on your right leg so that its chest lines up with your outer thigh. Wrap your right forearm around the chicken's chest and hug the bird in toward your torso. Gently grip and spread out the chicken's wing with your right hand. Spread the ten flight feathers out using your fingers.
- 2). Take a pair of sharp scissors, open them and align the blades with the short feathers on the wing nearest the bird's body. The blades should be perpendicular to the short feathers with the tips of the scissor blades pointing out toward the end of the chicken's wing. The jaws of the scissors should be in position to cut the flight feathers.
- 3). Snip the flight feathers off in a slight curve. When complete, the flight feathers should be the same length as the short feathers on the wing. The chicken won't be able to fly now.
