Halloween Decorating Ideas That You Can Make Yourself
- Greet guests with Halloween porch decorations. Create easy and inexpensive decor by transforming a flowerpot into a whimsical jack-o'-lantern. Paint a terracotta plant pot orange and add a scary jack-o-lantern face created with yellow paint and stencils. To make the craft weatherproof, cover the entire pot with Mod-Podge Outdoor to seal the paint. Stick a fat stick into the pot's hole as the pumpkin's stem. Add a sweet and spooky touch to the porch door with a candy corn-inspired wreath. Glue candy corn all over a black duct tape-wrapped Styrofoam wreath base and loop a large black ribbon through for hanging. A coat of clear sealant will protect the candy from the elements.
- Design window decor that you can enjoy from inside and outside your home. Add a touch of scary sparkle to your windows with shimmering spider crafts. The spiders are created by covering 4-inch Styrofoam balls with dark purple acrylic paint, gluing on googly eyes and inserting four chenille craft sticks into each side of the ball as legs. Finish the craft by sticking sequin pins through silver sequins and inserting them into the top of the ball. Knot translucent thread around one of the pins for hanging. As another option, decorate with hangings made with construction paper. Glue orange pumpkin, bat, ghost and witch silhouettes on black paper; punch holes through the top corners and loop a piece of yarn through for hanging.
- Enhance a Halloween party table with useful and decorative craft items. A large pumpkin can turn a snack bowl from boring to festive. Use a carving tool to remove the top of the pumpkin and insert the bowl securely into the hole so the rim rests along top of the pumpkin. Fill the bowl with Halloween-inspired snacks, such as candy corn or gummy worms, and place it in the middle of the party table as a centerpiece. Dress up table chairs by ironing white pillowcases flat and transforming them into spooky ghosts. Use stencils and fabric paint to give the pillowcases ghoulish faces. Slip one cover each guest's chair prior to the party.
- Create a scary scene in your yard using handmade decor items. Illuminate sidewalks and walkways with paper lunch bag luminarias. Give the bags jack-o'-lantern faces using a black marker and place one small LED light in each bag. Flying ghost crafts will spook Halloween visitors. Create the ghosts by placing autumn leaves or crumpled newspapers in the centers of old white sheets and tying them with string to create the ghosts' bodies. Draw ghoulish faces on the ghosts using a black marker and hang them from yard trees.
