Termite Fumigation Preparation
- The insecticide used to kill termites, sulfuryl fluoride, also is strong enough to kill pets and people. All pets, aquarium fish, plants and people must leave the building for three days.
- Termite insecticide is flammable, so turn off anything that can cause a spark, including gas ovens and gas heaters. Always ask your exterminator what other devices need to be turned off or unplugged before leaving the home to be fumigated.
- Before termite fumigation begins, be sure to remove all food, medications, bedding, pillows and mattresses. Take down antennas, weather vanes or chimney caps. Cut back or remove plants touching the property walls. Wooden fences also may need to be removed or partially dismantled.
