    • 1). Cut the 1/2-inch-thick plywood into six sheets, each 48 inches long and 16 inches wide.

    • 2). Cut 12 2-by-4 boards that measure 48 inches long.

    • 3). Cut 12 2-by-4s that are 13 inches long.

    • 4). Build the frames for the shelves by placing two of the 13-inch boards in between two of the 48-inch boards in a rectangular shape. Drill two screws through each corner joint to attach the boards. Construct six shelves using this method.

    • 5). Run a bead of carpenter's glue on top of the first shelf frame. Place a plywood board on top of the frame and line it up with the frame. Drive screws through the board into the frame every 6 inches. Finish the shelves on the other five frames the same way.

    • 6). Place the corner of one of the shelves 6 inches from the bottom of a 6-foot-long 2-by-4 and drill two screws through the 2-by-4 and into the shelf. Attach three more 6-foot-long 2-by-4s to the other corners of the shelf the same way, at the same height. The 6-foot boards are the legs for the shelving unit.

    • 7). Install another shelf flush with the top of the 6-foot boards, again with two screws per corner. Attach a third shelf in the middle, spacing it to fit your needs. Construct the other shelving unit using the same process.

    • 8). Paint the shelving units if desired.
