    • 1). Complete your guest list. Decide on the number of guests you would like to have at your party, and add 10 more. It is always a good idea to invite more than you would like because a few people probably will not make it.

    • 2). Create your invitations. Include your address, phone number and an RSVP date. Make a note on the invites about whether the party is kid-friendly. Specify a dress code, and ask each guest to bring an ornament.

    • 3). Address and mail the invitations. Mail your invites a month before the party. The holidays are a busy time, and you want to get your party on your guests' calendars first.

    • 4). Set up your tree a few days before the party to avoid rushing at the last minute. String the lights on the tree early. This is also the time to put your Christmas decorations up around the house.

    • 5). Create a cookie buffet. Keep your tree-trimming party simple by cooking a variety of cookies and deserts. Start the process days in advance is a lot less hectic than trying to cook a lot of food the day of the party.

    • 6). Purchase a variety of drinks. Include wine, beer, eggnog and kid-friendly drinks if needed. Also have bottled water on hand for those who do not wish to drink alcohol. Purchase a festive glasses for the drinks. Some stores sell plastic wine glasses with holiday designs.

    • 7). Prepare a place for the ornaments. As the guests arrive have them set their ornaments in the designated spot. Once all the guests have shown and the party is well on its way, trim the tree. Call all the guests to the tree and have each attach their ornament. Mingle and take pictures.
