How to Set a Chainsaw Chain Grinder
- 1). Set the grinder on a flat, well-lit workbench. Screw the correct circular filing stone in place on the grinder. The stone specifications will be located on every box the chain comes in.
- 2). Open up the clamp where the chain will be sharpened. Set the chain onto the metal runners inside the clamp. Fasten the clamp shut and lock the chain in place.
- 3). Adjust the angle of the clamp to set the filing angle for the top plate. This specification will also be found on the chain's box.
- 4). Set the grinder down onto the first tooth. Set the depth gauge knob. This screw is also usually located on the clamp. Lift the grinder up. Put your safety equipment on.
- 5). Sharpen the first tooth. Stop the machine and check to make sure you haven't over-ground the chain. Make adjustments to the depth and angle as needed.
- 6). Loosen the clamp and slide the chain up to the next tooth along the metal runners. Lock the clamp back in place. Turn the machine on and grind the next. Finish all of the teeth angled towards the same direction. Flip the chain around and repeat the same process for the other side.
