DIY Baseboard Molding

    • 1). Measure the length of the wall where you will install the baseboard. Cut a strip of 1-inch-by-4-inch wood to the measurement using the miter saw for an even cut. The cut wood is your base board.

    • 2). Use a level to make sure the base board is level when placed against the wall. Use a brad nailer to shoot 2-inch nails into the baseboard and wall along the length of the base board. Space your nails about 6 to 10 inches apart.

    • 3). Cut a length of toe strip to match. Use the same size nails and install the toe strip against the baseboard flush with the floor. Nail the toe strip so that the nails enter the floor at an angle. You will have to shoot the nails through the toe strip into the baseboard if installing over tile.

    • 4). Measure the angle of the corner of the wall. A 90-degree corner will allow you to butt one base board against the other without having to make an angle cut creating a butt joint. Adjust your miter saw to 45 degrees to cut the toe strips for a 90-degree corner. Adjust your miter saw to one-half of the angle you measured for any odd sized angles and cut your toe strip and your base boards at that angle.

    • 5). Repeat the steps until the baseboard is fully installed.
