Do I Need a Caregiver?
The purpose of an in home caregiver is to help you get through the basic activities of daily living. These include eating, going to the bathroom, showering, and just getting around inside your home. If you have trouble with any of these, in home care can be a great benefit. If you need help preparing a meal or bathing, your caregiver can likely be of assistance to you.
Selecting the right service can be a bit daunting. As I mentioned above, there are now many in home caregivers in the market due to the high demand. This makes your choice a bit more difficult, but in reality, this will only help you since you will likely find a better service when there are a dozen in your town than you would if you only had one choice.
Insurance will sometimes cover in home care. They go by the activities of daily living rule as well, but their definition is a bit different. To insurance companies such as Medicare, the activities of daily living consist of: personal hygiene, self-feeding, dressing, transferring, going to the bathroom, and ambulation/walking. If you are unable to take care of one of these categories, or at least have difficulty with it, you are eligible to receive insurance benefits to cover long term care or in home care€"depending upon your insurance policy. This is why having a separate in home care insurance policy is so important. The odds are that you or your spouse will need it, and paying the small monthly premium is much less than having to shill out over ten thousand dollars per year. In home care insurance is cheap and affordable€"if you are in good health. Medicare can help with this, but only in a very limited sense. The remainder of your fees you will be responsible for out of pocket. No one wants to go through something like this, but by being prepared you can save a lot of money. This is why it's important to think about getting a caregiver long before you need one.
