Halloween Children's Games

    • Halloween is the perfect holiday to share games with children. Halloween games should be safe, fun and easy to play repeatedly. You can adjust some games to play them inside, or if the weather is nice enough take the party outdoors.

    Gross-Out

    • Prepare for this game ahead of time. You do not want kids peeking. Hide a bowl of cooked, cooled pasta in a covered box on a table. Cut a hole in the side of the box for kids to stick their hands in. They will feel the gooey contents and try to guess what they are feeling. You could have lots of fun telling children that they are grabbing brains or eyeballs. Experiment with different foods to get a variety of textures.

    Bob for Apples

    • Older children will enjoy bobbing for apples. Fill a galvanized tub with clean water and toss in some apples. Players have to dunk their heads in the tub to grab an apple. No one can uses their hands, just their mouths. Players can keep the apples they retrieve.

    Ghostie Piñatas

    • For a night party, fill a couple of bat piñatas with Halloween candy and novelty toys. Hang the piñatas at varying lengths from a tree. Instead of blindfolding children, give them a sheet to wear. Point the ghosts, one at a time, toward the piñatas with a piñata stick. Let the ghosts take turns taking a whack at the piñata until it is broken open. Give kids mini-flashlights to help them retrieve the goodies from the ground.

    Ring the Pumpkins

    • Set up a collection of pumpkins in varying sizes on a playing field or on a table. Make rope rings for kids to toss at the pumpkins. Let kids take turns to see who can ring the most pumpkins. Let kids keep the pumpkins they ring and take them home.

    Haunted Scavenger Hunt

    • Make a haunted scavenger hunt treasure map that leads the party guests to a pretend pirate treasure. Give kids everything they need to dig up or discover the treasure. The treasure could be a box of candy or toys kids can share. Have kids work in teams or together as one. If you have younger and older children, have two prizes. Help the little ones find their treasure.
