In a world that is becoming unsafe fast, safety and security are primary concerns for most of the home owners. Gone are the days when the home was the safest refuge for anyone. Burglars, thieves, and vandals violate the safety of homes at regular intervals harming the occupants. It would be good learning how to stay safe at home using some useful security products.

Risks for Entire Family

Burglars avoid occupied houses usually though there may be some exceptions to this common rule. Housebreak when one is at home with his or her family can put the entire family at risk. Such risks are even greater in case of invasion by robbers or dacoits. However, home owners can take a number of steps for preventing such eventualities.

Never Part with Keys

Parting with keys and handing them over to others could be dangerous. Even when friends are trustworthy it is not a good practice letting them know the locations of all the keys of anyone's house.

Hiding keys in the house premises is a bad habit as keys can be easily traced by experienced thieves and burglars.

Car keys and home keys should be put in different rings if one is accustomed to using car valets or parking lot attendants.

Keep Away From Strangers

It is never advisable allowing strangers in home. It does not apply to children alone but to grown up people as well. One has to be cautious about home security. Thus using a safety chain, or having stun gun, or pepper spray handy would be very useful. Even when accepting a package delivery, it is good asking for the photo identity of the person concerned.

Uniforms Do Not Make One Legitimate

Just because someone is wearing uniform or driving the truck with a company logo, does not make such person legitimate. Such things can easily be stolen by thieves and burglars. Similarly, if anyone asks for phone call, or poses as the TV, telephone, or AC checking technical staff, instead of letting them come in immediately it would be good asking for their identities or contact the company over phone to know whether some one were sent by them in reality.

Displaying Valuables is Dangerous

One of the most dangerous habits for many people is displaying their valuables for false pride or vanity. Keeping jewelries, fancy items, purse, credit cards, or wallet in straight view through the door and window is a habit to be avoided.

Thieves and burglars can easily notice through the doors and windows and plan out to rob the owner easily.
