A Point for Functionalism
When decorating your house, the look you are going for can be classy, unique, retro, chic, modern, eclectic, or traditional. Any style is greatas long as the style isnt chaotic. It can be easy to get carried away, but often the result is opposite of what is intended. Some overzealous decorators have so many large decorative items that one cannot even walk around efficiently. Others have so many off-season dcor items in their garage that they cannot even park their car. Though form is important, remember that function comes first. For example, the kitchen is a highly trafficked area, and counter space is usually more valuable for cooking than for decorating. At the other end of the spectrum, bedrooms are places where some decorative touches are welcomed and appreciated. If you find yourself moving a dcor item more than a couple times a week, it is probably not in a good place. Move it somewhere else, and if necessary, replace it with something more serviceable.
Creating Attractive Wreaths
A lovely wreath on your door will tell visitors to your home something about you before they even step inside. There are many ways to be creative when you make a wreath: the combinations of colors, shapes, and themes or styles lead to endless possibilities. You just need a foam ring and some silk flowers to get started. Take the flowers and cut off the stems about one inch from the calyx, or bottom of the flower. Then push the stems of each flower into the ring. Strategically place them so that they are close enough to cover up the foam, but not so close that they look bunched or crushed. As you add the flowers, it is a good idea to dot them with a little glue from a hot glue gun at the point where the stem comes out of the foam. Vines or other standard greenery can be used to add a festive flare. Color coordination can be used to match the seasons, or if you like a natural look, any variety of flower colors will work. Once the wreath is completed, hammer in a small nail to the top of the door and string up the wreath.
Involving Your Children in Interior Decorating
The need to decorate the interior of your home often hits even when you have little ones to raise. This at times can seem to be counter productive as children, especially very young kids, have a way of distracting from the natural flow of completing dcor projects. Rather than trying to fight against kids for some time, have them join you! You can either get them involved in your project, or give them a separate one. If you want to change their room, not only will involving your children be a fun experience for them, they will be more likely to respect and protect their work. Search the Internet for project ideas you can do with your kids. If you want to decorate with items that will survive the younger years, use hanging plants (which cannot be reached) and tall artificial trees (which are hard to damage).
