An enclosed porch can be a great addition to a bedroom, but in many cases, homeowners may choose to create a separation- whether temporary or permanent. Remember to make any materials functional based on your needs. If you must still access the porch from the bedroom door, you may use temporary and movable materials, whereas the porch functions on it's own, you might opt for more privacy with a permanent enclosure. - Let light in and keep prying eyes out!lattice image by Joann Cooper from Fotolia.com
Use lattice for an affordable and easily removable enclosure. Set lattice on Enclosed Porch. Weave vines or flowers though or place plants around it for even more privacy. Leave room to get through your bedroom door out to the porch and angle lattice so that sufficient natural light gets into your room. - Bamboo shades are great for atmosphere and privacy.bamboo image by hans slegers from Fotolia.com
When used appropriately, bamboo is a classy and sophisticated material. Hang bamboo shades outside on the porch, close to the window or door of the bedroom. This way, the person on the porch can choose to enclose the porch from whatever is going on in the bedroom if there are no blinds or curtains drawn from inside. The bamboo shade will also create a nice tropical texture to the area. - Add curtains for privacy.Red brick and white curtains image by MPfoto from Fotolia.com
For optimal privacy, hang thermal curtains at all windows in your bedroom. Minimal light will be let through, and the bedroom and enclosed porch will be completely separated. Additionally, thermal curtains help regulate temperature inside the bedroom- keeping out the cold in the winter! - A classy enclosure made of glass blocks.woman and glass blocks image by cullenphotos from Fotolia.com
If your enclosed porch has it's own outside entrance and you'd like to separate it completely from a bedroom- thereby making it inaccesible from the room- consider a wall of some kind. You can also do a partial wall that still allows those in the bedroom to access the porch directly. This design will work best for a bedroom that has another source of natural light- like a window on an opposing wall. An optimal material to use would be glass blocks, which will let in minimal light, but will make the bedroom and porch completely private spaces.
