Avatar - 40 Mins More With IMAX 3D
Director James Cameron stated in an interview that they are tossing around the idea of re-releasing the film into studios this year with deleted scenes included to give avid fans a reason to head back to the theatre.
Cameron said that the re-release of the film would be a wildcard and may help bring overall sales back up after the release of 'Alice in Wonderland' caused a sharp sudden decline.
The studio believes that if the film is released again in the summer or fall they could rake in a few more hundred millions.
The famous director continued to say that while most people may not want to see an old film in the midst of summer movies, the trick is to find an empty release date and add in some creative footage that will draw fans back to it.
IMAX head Richard Gelfond seconded the idea stating that there are around forty more minutes that could be used in the film and they may even make the movie into a 3D IMAX release.
Interestingly enough, before Avatar hits the theaters again the 2D DVD version will probably already been on shelves expected sometime between April or May.
Of course, this only leaves room for a special edition or 'director's cut' DVD release after the film cycles through theaters again which means even more money for Fox.
Now that's some great marketing.
