How to Hang Rice Paper on Walls
- 1). Measure the size of the rice paper you wish to hang on the wall. Write the measurement lengths and widths down so you'll remember them when purchasing supplies.
- 2). Purchase an appropriately-sized frame and acid-free matboard. The matboard is also referred to as museum board in some cases and should be the same size as your rice paper.
- 3). Attach the rice paper to the matboard using mounting corners. These plastic pieces slide over the corners of the matboard and hold the artwork in place, making the use of damaging adhesives unnecessary. Lay the matboard on the floor and place the rice paper on top. Gently slide each mounting corner into place.
- 4). Open the backing of the picture frame. Place the matboard with the rice paper into the frame and re-attach the backing to the frame.
- 5). Attach a hanging wire to the back of the frame if necessary. Some picture frames come with this already in place. Other frames have holes where you thread the wire through and wrap the edges to secure it into place.
- 6). Use a stud-finder to locate a stud in the area where you wish to hang the rice paper. Because of the weight of the frame, it's best to hang it from a wall-stud which provides more support than wallboard alone. Mark the location for hanging with a pencil.
- 7). Nail a picture hook into the wall using the pencil marking as a guide. Base the size of your picture hook on the size of your framed rice paper.
- 8). Hold the frame up to the wall and thread the hanging wire onto the picture hook. This may take several attempts. Ask another person for help if the frame is very heavy. Adjust the framed rice paper as necessary until it appears even on the wall.
