- 1). Trace the outline of the snap closure on the piece of paper, near one end of the sheet of paper so there is room for the rest of the pattern. Also draw a perpendicular line intersecting the outline where the hinge is on the snap closure. Below the outline, design the general shape of the coin purse.
- 2). Cut two from each: fabric, lining, and interfacing. Use the pattern created in step one as a guide, and remember to leave 1/4 to 1/2 inch seam allowance on all sides. Mark the hinge line on the interfacing, using the pattern to line up the perpendicular lines in the right spots on the interfacing.
- 3). Pin the interfacing to the back of the fabric pieces. At the same time, line up the lining pieces to the fabric pieces with right sides together. Stitch from the hinge mark to the top of the coin purse on both sides of the upper part of the pieces; do the part that attaches to the snap closure later. Turn both sides of the coin purse (two separate sides still) so the right sides of the lining and fabric face outward, with the interfacing stitched in the middle.
- 4). Pin the two sides of the purse together, with right sides of the fabric facing. Do not pin the lining, only pin the fabric pieces and interfacing together. Stitch along the bottom portion of the purse, stitching the lining and interfacing together. Turn right side out with unstitched lining pieces inside.
- 5). Pull the lining pieces out from inside the purse. Press under 1/4 to 1/2 inch along the raw edges of the two sides, then pin together with the pressed edges inside. Slip-stitch by hand, using the needle and thread, to close the lining. When finished, push the lining back inside the purse.
- 6). Glue or hand-stitch the snap closure in place, along the top edges, lining up the hinges with the appropriate areas on the purse. If the snap closure does not have areas for stitching, then simply apply fabric glue and bond to the purse. Allow sufficient drying time for the glue.
