    Vinegar

    • Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and cleaning agent that will break up the ammonia in pet urine, making it the perfect option for a steam cleaning solution. Fill the steam cleaner tank with hot water and add 1 cup of distilled white vinegar. Clean the carpets, focusing on high-traffic areas and places where pets spend a lot of time. A slight vinegar smell will be released, but this will dissipate after a few hours.

    Baking Soda

    • Baking soda is a deodorizing agent that will eliminate pet smells. It is also a cleaning agent. Fill the steam cleaner with hot water, then add 2 cups of baking soda. Clean the carpets, concentrating on any stained areas.

    Laundry Detergent

    • Laundry detergent deodorizes and cleans most fabrics, including carpets. Fill the steam cleaner with hot water, then add a capful of liquid laundry detergent. Clean the carpets and repeat as needed until they have been cleaned to your satisfaction. The detergent will also emit a laundry-fresh scent.
