Appreciating the Value of a Lady Liberty Coin
Some would look for coins that were made on specific years while some would focus on certain designs.
But the most popular form of collection is the one focused on the Lady Liberty.
What made many collectors focus on this specific form of coin is due to its constantly changing design.
For example, one of the earliest designs was from the 1837 release wherein the Lady Liberty is seated, looking backwards with a shield on her hand.
Some designs do not feature the body at all.
A good example is the 1878 design featuring only the left side of the head.
Another interesting note is that there were designs that actually got the public's attention and even outrage.
A classic example is the quarter coin with a standing Lady Liberty issued in 1917.
What made this design controversial was that the design featured a bare breast.
The right breast is revealed in the coin.
Because of the public outrage, a covered version was made the next year.
It has the same design but the breast is now covered by her dress.
Near perfect mints still exist and they are some of the most sought after design by collectors.
The latest notable version of Lady Liberty was the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.
The statue was officially accepted by USA in 1886.
Another collector's item is the 1997 platinum coin with an American Eagle on the other.
