How to Prune a Wisteria Bush
- 1). Cut back wisteria branches in the middle of winter. Use pruning shears and cut the branches back to the base of the plant. When the bush starts to grow in the spring, new branches will grow with plenty of flowers.
- 2). Prune the bush again in July. Cut the new shoots back to 6 inches from the main branch where they emerged. This will encourage the bush to bloom earlier and helps shape the bush.
- 3). Remove any dying branches whenever you see them. Getting rid of the unhealthy branches helps the bush focus on new growth and improves the appearance of the bush.
