How do I Get Employment in the Nursing Field in Ghana, Africa?
- 1). Gain admission to one of the numerous accredited nurse training institutions across Ghana with your Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or equivalent. Some universities and colleges in Ghana offer four-year degree programs in nursing, which would give someone the necessary start in the nursing field through any of the health institutions in Ghana. To gain admission, most universities in Ghana require satisfactory SSCE or WASSCE scores, or a diploma issued by the NMC.
- 2). Take the Registered Nurse (RN) license examination held in the months of June and December. The NMC administers the test. After successfully completing the license exam, the student conducts a practical orientation (also known as an internship or attachment) in a teaching, regional, or any otherwise NMC-accredited hospital. Based on your satisfactory performance during the practical orientation, you will then be registered to practice as a RN.
- 3). Send resume and cover letter to any accredited health care facility of your choice depending on your specialty and skills. Do follow-ups on sent applications. Make sure you research the health care institution to which you apply before being called for interview. Upon successfully completing any interviews and tests, and your credentials will be reviewed and checked by your employers.
