How to Renew Old Batteries
- 1). Drain your batteries by using them in an appliance. Drain them in power tools, which require a lot of power, or devices that run in the background like personal music players or video game controllers. Wait until the device shuts off or stops working before proceeding to the next step.
- 2). Remove the batteries from the device and place them in, or clip them to, the recharge unit. Follow the instructions of your recharge unit carefully and do not remove the batteries until they have been fully charged (usually indicated by an LED light).
- 3). Drain the batteries again in the same device you used before. This breaks down crystals that form in the batteries and make them less effective with each use. This process, known as reconditioning, increases their longevity.
- 4). Repeat the recharge/discharge process three times. By the third time, your cells should be renewed and have a good lifespan.
