    Use Wall Hangings

    • Use various types of wall hangings to re-create a room. Buy an old pair of curtains at a thrift store or get hand-me-downs from a friend. Install a curtain rod in the middle of a wall and hang the curtain from floor to ceiling to cover the wall and give your living space a new and fresh look. Keep the curtains closed or open them and place a large mirror or picture on the wall between the panels of the curtains for a completed look. Enlarge photos of yourself, family members and other random shots that compliment your life and make a wall colleague. Find old or used frames to hang them in to cover your walls and to create an eclectic décor.

    Press-Ons

    • Purchase wall press-ons that come in various shapes and designs that easily attach to the wall like a sticker and come off without leaving a residue behind. The press-ons you choose can set the tone for the rest of the decorations in your living space. For example, if you use a wall press-on that looks like tree branches, you can use tree elements as centerpieces, floor decorations and on your light fixtures. You can also buy an entire wall-mural press-on that is an extra large photograph or a scenic shot of the ocean or forest.

    Coffee

    • Use coffee as a cheap paint alternative. Brew a pot of coffee at double-strength and use the coffee to stain your walls. Allow the coffee to dry and then apply another coat until you achieve the intensity and depth of color you want for your walls. Coffee will create an old-world, faux finish that is rustic in appearance and easy to paint over if you don't like it.
