Manufactures instructions Take accurate measurements of the inside of the door opening.
Measure the width and take a ¼" off for the frame of the storm door, then measure the height and take a ½" off.
Take these measurements to the lumberyard and buy the proper sized door to fit your opening.
Study the manufactures instructions each one is different but here are basic instructions on how to install your storm door.
Place the drip edge, or top piece onto the door frame and screw it into place with 2 screws.
This may need adjusted later.
Figure out which side bar will be the hinge side, the one you want your door to swing from, your side bars might need to be trimmed, and this can be done with a hacksaw.
Take into account which way your door swings so it doesn't hit anything.
Push the hinge side against the jamb.
Make sure the hinge side bar is touching the drip edge.
Screw the screen door to the door jamb with the supplied screws.
Use three to four screws for now until you are happy with the placement and then install the rest of the screws.
Open the screen door and place the screws on the inside of your side bar.
Adjust the top drip edge as necessary so the gap at the top of the door is even for the entire width of the door.
Measure the length needed for the other side and trim the side bar to fit from the drip edge to the floor.
Place the second side bar in place and close the door, make sure the gap is even and screw this side into the door jamb.
Install the handle, using the manufacturer's directions.
Slide the expander off the bottom of the door and push the sweep onto the bottom; some manufactures recommend crimping the sweep into place.
Cut off any excess sweep.
Slide the expander back on the door and install it at the proper height with screws.
Install the door closer according to the manufacturer's directions.
Open the door and let it shut, the pressure of the closer can be adjusted by the screw on the end.
This will make the door close either faster or slower.
Now it is time to open your door and let the fresh air into your house.
Your new storm door will help save on your energy bills.
