American Idol 2010, Who"s Coaching These Kids
I watched last night every bit as frustrated as the judges. Randy and the rest.. struggle to find the words to communicate that elusive something. They want to ask "Who are you?" "Where are you?" Give me something to make me swoon. Don't we all want to listen to the magic and swoon? Yes, we do.
That's why we love American Idol I guess. It repeatedly offers us the possibility that maybe this time I will feel those shivers that touch my hidden place.
But my point is here... hmmm... Yes, these kids are talented. At least the gifts are present. However, they're still wrapped up under the Christmas tree waiting to be opened. When they open their mouths and push air through their vocal chords, sounds come out. That's about the extent of it.... at least, for me so far. That's all I hear.
If they were my patients, I would unlock the emotional doors that keep them from singing with personal impact. I would show them how to impart their own personal charm.
We are all waiting for magical moments. These really aren't stories like Rocky Balboa. Vocal greatness flows through a person. It doesn't flow from a person. Why are there dams blocking the flow? What opens the floodgates?
I'll tell you. Childhood beliefs close off the flow. Old experiences impart emotionally staggering impressions upon young psyches. In an instant an emotional experience becomes a core belief. Everything from that moment on is influenced by that core belief. Moreover, a person will act out consistently throughout life to uphold the erroneous core belief. The most common core belief related to success is "... people like me don't become superstars." Or, some version of that statement.
Again, who is coaching these kids? In one hour, I could (with homeopathy and some emotionally freeing techniques) set them free to do what they were born to do. I just hate seeing singers like Didi crumble. So close, yet so thoroughly walled in.
In closing, it is interesting to note how many of the contestants on American Idol 2010, pray before their performances. God gives us talents, but He expects us to multiply them ourselves. That is the Biblical lesson in the Parable of the Talents.
