How to Decorate Mini-Blinds

    • 1). Open all of the windows and doors in the room where you plan to spray paint the mini-blinds to create a work space that is as well-ventilated as possible.

    • 2). Cut two long pieces of string and wrap each one around either end of the top base part of the mini-blinds. Secure the strings to the support of your choice; for example, if your ceiling features hooks or strong beams, secure the strings to either of those. Your goal is to hang the mini-blinds in such a way that you have full access to the front and back of them.

    • 3). Cover the floor just underneath the blinds with sheets of newspaper. Cover with newspaper any articles or items in the room that are near the blinds and that could be covered with residual spray paint. Alternately, remove such items from the room.

    • 4). Close the slats of the mini blinds so that they are lying flat down.

    • 5). Spray paint the slats one base color; cover the slats completely by making a smooth continuous back and forth motion with your can of spray paint. Don't cover the slats with so much paint that it will drip as it dries. A single slight layer is adequate.

    • 6). Twist the control rod so that the slats are almost in a flat position the exact opposite way. Because you've just painted the majority of each slat, you don't want them to touch.

    • 7). Walk to the other side of the mini blinds and give the unpainted portion of all of the slats an even coat of spray paint. Be careful not to coat the slats too heavily with spray paint as that will cause drips. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 8). Position the slats so that they are lying flat.

    • 9). Tape your stencils to the places where you want the images or shapes to appear on the mini blinds. For some patterns, this might be dead center; for others, you might want the stencils to make continuous rows across the mini-blinds.

Take another color of spray paint and color in the stencils, making smooth continuous back and forth motions with the can of spray paint.

Remove the stencils and allow the spray paint to air dry.
