    Traditional Fireplaces

    • A traditional (or open) fireplace offers the best ambience. The smells and sounds of the burning, as well as the visual appeal of the fire, are close at hand in a traditional fireplace. In exchange, homeowners must deal with heat loss, efficiency and some particulates released into the home. Traditional fireplaces are constructed of stone, masonry or concrete, and are an integral part of the construction of the home. Traditional fireplaces can be made more efficient by utilizing fireplace screens and internal additions (such as baffles or reflectors) that radiate or convect more heat into your home. In general, however, traditional fireplaces are considered to be energy inefficient.

    Clean-Burning Fireplaces

    • Clean-burning fireplaces are engineered units designed to burn more efficiently. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-certified fireplaces, in particular, produce less than 7.5 grams of particulate matter per hour when operated according to the manufacturer's instructions. Clean-burning fireplaces also produce more heat than traditional fireplaces.

    High-Efficiency Fireplaces

    • Fireplace Insert

Install a high-efficiency fireplace to partially heat a residence. These closed-combustion systems will restrict the view, sound and smell of the fire but offer heat output far superior to that of a traditional fireplace. High-efficiency fireplaces can be purchased as complete units for new construction or as an insert for an existing traditional fireplace.

    Prefabricated Fireplaces

    • Prefabricated fireplace units are manufactured for new construction, and can be installed in wood construction and in areas where traditional fireplaces are not appropriate or too expensive. Lightweight and available in various sizes, prefabricated units can be stacked and are available as double-sided and corner configurations.

    Manufactured Inserts

    • Install manufactured inserts to turn a traditional fireplace into model that burns cleaner or generates additional heat. Inserts can be purchased with blower attachments that help circulate heat from the fire into homes. Glass or metal screens retain more heat in the firebox and avoid sucking heated air from your home.

    Cleaning Fireplaces

    • *Fireplace cleaners can be purchased in a variety of formulas to clean and restore various parts of your fireplace.
*Burn Chimney Sweeping Logs to release chemicals that remove creosote build-up in your chimney. These logs are best for regular maintenance but will not replace periodic inspection and cleaning by a chimney sweep. Creosote removers also come in liquid and spray forms. They are poured or sprayed on a fire log to remove build-up in your chimney.
*Use an ash vacuum for cleaning the fireplace. Special filters on the vacuum trap the ash and dust.

    Fireplace Accessories

    • Fireplace bellow

*Fan kit: Additions manufactured for inserts or prefabricated fireplaces to circulate air around the fire chamber to extract heat from the fire and return it to the occupied space.
*Dampers and pulls: Install dampers and pulls in traditional fireplaces to close off the chimney when the fireplace is not in use.
*Glass and metal screen doors: Glass doors are used to seal off your fireplace, keeping the fire from extracting heat from the home while still allowing you to enjoy the view of the fire.
*Bellows: A bellow boosts the combustion of the wood. It works by blowing air from a bladder into the flames, making the fire burn hotter. This is especially useful for fires used for heat
