The Secret is Out

Brady is outside the DiMera mansion trying to get in touch with Nicole, who is in Paris. He’s getting bad reception on his end. Unbeknownst to Brady, E.J. is listening to him on Nicole’s phone. “Nicole listen, if you can hear me, the secret is out. Call me back,” urges Brady. “What secret would that be?” asks E.J. Brady is livid and claims he can’t hear E.J. He tells E.J. to put Nicole on the line, but E.J.

refuses. He hangs up just as Nicole emerges ready to celebrate E.J.’s birthday. She sees that E.J. is distracted and asks him what’s wrong. He reveals that Brady Black called and said, “The secret is out.” E.J. wants to know what secret Brady is referring to. Nicole claims she doesn’t know what Brady is talking about, since she hasn’t spoken to him in weeks. E.J. recounts Brady’s phone call, asking again what Brady was talking about. Nicole continues to claim she has no idea. He proposes they call Brady together. “You talk, I listen,” he suggests.

Nicole claims she forgot Brady’s number. E.J. reminds Nicole that Brady just called, and his name came up, so he’s in her address book. He demands the phone so he can call Brady. She admits that she’s been in contact with Brady, and suspects that he’s doing cocaine again, falsely surmising that he’s had a relapse since he’s saying things that make no sense. E.J. grabs Nicole by her face and fumes how she’s lying to him.

E.J. rehashes how he knows her history and knows she had an abused father, so he’s been sensitive to the tendency that she’s had to dissemble from time to time.

Nicole denies doing this right now. E.J. asserts that Brady was sober as hell on the phone. Nicole tries to convince E.J. that Brady can do that from time to time, referring to him as erratic. An incredulous E.J. asks her to just call Brady. She refuses to call him, yelling how E.J.’s suspicions are baseless. She insists that it doesn’t matter what Brady says, because it doesn’t affect them. E.J. vows to find out exactly what the truth is. Nicole implores E.J. to call Brady if he wants “answers to nonexisting questions,” but E.J. knows Brady won’t talk to him. E.J. then decides that he’ll talk to Brady in person, and they can head home within the hour. Nicole refers to it as crazy and begins to panic on the inside.

E.J. and Nicole are later on the private jet on their way back to Salem. She looks at a magazine, then decides that she’s going to tell E.J. the truth, or at least her version of it.

On the Pier

Daniel has just proposed to Chloe, who smiles and says yes. He throws his arms around her and kisses her. He slips the ring on her finger and kisses her again. She marvels how she can’t stop smiling and how she’s never been so happy. He recalls how just a few days ago he was going out of his mind thinking he’d never see her again. They share another kiss before he tells her that he wants to tell someone about their engagement, someone who’s been like a father to him. Chloe assumes he’s talking about Victor, which Daniel confirms. Chloe agrees to support him on this. Daniel recalls how Victor stood by his side, paid his bail, and brought Justin in to represent him while he was in jail. He believes he owes Victor a lot, then kisses her. Chloe says she also wants to share the news with someone who is very important to her.

Chloe thanks Father Matt for meeting with her. She recalls the last time they spoke, when he said she would have God’s blessing if she listened to what was in her heart. She now realizes that she and Lucas were never supposed to be together, admitting that she was lying to Lucas and herself when she said she loved him. She believes her marriage to Lucas was based on a strange obligation she felt to take care of him and Allie. Therefore, she doesn’t feel like a divorce makes sense. He assumes that she’s asking if it’s okay to get an annulment. She happily announces that Daniel just proposed to her, and it would mean more than anything in the world if Father Matt and God would bless their union.

Daniel and Victor

Daniel arrives at the mansion and is embraced by Victor, who congratulates him on the good news that the hospital is taking him back. Victor laments not doing more when Daniel was arrested, but there was Philip to consider. Daniel expresses how he owes Victor his life and has some other news he hopes will make Victor happy. “Chloe and I are getting married,” reveals Daniel. “You can’t be serious!” responds Victor.

Victor takes a big drink, leaving Daniel wondering if he’s trying to get drunk. “I’m trying to keep from jumping out of my skin!” exclaims Victor. Daniel declares that he’s out of there. Victor insists that he only has Daniel’s best interests at heart, but points out Chloe’s track record with men, rehashing how she destroyed Philip’s life, turned Brady into an addict, now Lucas is in rehab. Daniel wonders if it ever occurred to Victor that the men might’ve been just a little screwed up before they met Chloe. Victor states that every man Chloe touches, she destroys. He refuses to let her destroy Daniel too.

Daniel expresses how he’s marrying a woman who makes him happier than he’s ever been in his life. Victor rehashes how loving Chloe nearly cost him his life, and predicts that loving Chloe will be Daniel’s downfall. “I’d rather die than see you marry that whore!” admits Victor. Chloe is just outside the door and overhears.

Maggie’s House

Mia takes a call from Chad, who stopped by the hospital to check up on Will’s dad. Mia states that Mr. Horton checked out of the hospital and is going someplace to get help. “Really? Just like you did?” confronts Chad. She wonders if he called to accuse her of lying again. He apologizes, but insists it doesn’t make sense that she did drugs and went to rehab. She affirms that she doesn’t care what he thinks he knows, then tells him to stay away from her.
