How to Make a Brick Barbecue Grill

    • 1). Arrange the first layer of brick of your choice in the exact place you want your barbeque grill to be. Use the grill tray as a guide and follow the design plan you made. Usually, the shape of a grill base is in a shape of an upside down letter U. Use a level to see if the bricks are horizontal and that the corners have perfectly right angles. Keeping as many bricks as possible whole, and not have them cut into halves, will make your job easier.

    • 2). Make a mortar mix, carefully following the instructions on the package. Use a trowel to stir the mixture and make sure that the mortar is exactly the right consistency.

    • 3). Lay the other layers of bricks, starting from the corners. Use the mortar to attach one layer of brick to another and use a chisel and a trowel to apply mortar. Continue laying layers of brick until you reach the height of the barbecue you need. Constantly check the entire structure with a level during the process.

    • 4). Make the joints more attractive and neat by treating them with a hose or a tool such as a jointer. Create a neat finish of the joints by pressing a tool or a piece of hose all along them, while the mortar still hasn’t settled. Use your fingers to wipe out the excess mortar as well.

    • 5). Finish the barbecue by cementing a paving slab on the top of the brick walls. This will be your working surface so make sure to double check if the height is comfortable for you.

    • 6). Leave the whole assembly to dry, harden and cure for three days. Then treat the bricks with a cleaning solution and scrub them with brushes, completely saturating the barbecue with water. After that, rinse off the structure with clean water from a hose and allow it to dry.
