Breakfast is Where it All Begins
There are many articles indicating the importance of breakfast and yet many people skip it.
They're either running late, they want a few extra minutes under the covers, or they're trying to cut calories.
Me, I just can't do it.
Breakfast is like an automatic negative feedback system between the brain and stomach triggered by the eyes.
Eyes open --> message is relayed to the brain --> the brain instructs the stomach to be hungry = poof, breakfast.
Regardless as to what my day looks like in terms of time tables and commitments, I always make it a point to sit down with a bowl of something and turn 30 minutes into my own time to relax and just be me.
I enjoy refueling after a good night's sleep and getting my insulin levels up to par because six to eight hours is a very long time to go without eating.
In my eyes, a morning meal exercises my insulin the same way aerobics exercises my heart.
And so breakfasting supplies me with that extra energy needed for my ensuing workouts, which is followed by a quick shower, a gathering of personal belongings, and then I'm out the door.
Take today for instance.
For some reason I was running late with everything.
From getting up on time, trying to fit in my morning exercise, preparing my meals for the entire day..
..
even buying a new bus ticket for a later departure time didn't give me any additional tick tocks for what I had to do! And I knew from the minute I opened my eyes that my day would play out just as it did because I saw I woke up an hour later than I usually do.
But you know what I said? Screw it, I'm eating.
