How do I Install a Chlorinator?

    Features

    • A chlorinator needs to be placed within the pool water return line, or the tubing that returns the filtered water to the pool, due to the high levels of chlorine. If not placed correctly, the concentrated chlorine could damage other pool components, such as the heater and check valve. Both the heater and filter need to be upstream from the chlorinator, so water flow is moving from the filter and heater combination into the chlorinator.

    Considerations

    • To place the chlorinator within the return line, cut into the tubing and bond the chlorinator in with PVC solvent glue. Additionally, manufacturers recommend installing a check valve to protect the pool heater from any damage caused by backflow from the chlorinator.

    Warning

    • When installing a chlorinator, make sure the pool's filter and pump equipment are turned off and all valves are closed.
