How to Paint Christmas Designs on Windows
Things You'll Need
Instructions
Making a Pattern
1Decide what design you want on your window and draw it on the butcher paper. When you're satisfied with it, trace the outlines in black marker.
2
Flip the paper over and tape it to a sunny window with the drawing facing the window glass. You should be able to see the design through the paper.
3
Trace the design over again on the blank side of the paper. This will give you a mirror image of the picture you originally drew. Using the mirror image as a pattern keeps your design from looking backwards to people walking by.
Painting the Design
1Spray the window down with window cleaner and wipe it dry. Acrylic paint will adhere better to a clean surface.
2
Tape your pattern up on the outside of the window using the masking tape. Walk inside and check to make sure that the pattern is straight and that it is facing the right direction. When you look at the pattern from the inside of the window, the design should be reversed and any letters should appear backwards.
3
Outline your design in black acrylic paint using the small paintbrush. Wait a few minutes for the paint to dry so that it doesn't smear when you fill in the outlines.
4
Fill in the design with your desired colors using the larger paintbrush. Add shading and highlights if desired. Wash your brush in the cup of water between colors.
Removing the Design
1Spray window cleaner all over the design until it is soaked through.
2
Wait a few minutes to allow the water to penetrate the paint and soften it.
3
Remove the paint by scraping it off with an old credit card. Wipe the window dry, then spray the window with the cleaner one more time and wipe it dry to remove any remaining residue.
