How to Get Rid of Dead Grass in Lawn
- 1). Water the grass to see if it can recover. It is possible the grass isn't completely dead yet and extra water could help get the grass green again.
- 2). Add fertilizer to any dead-looking patches to see if nutrients help the lawn recover. Follow the directions on the package to determine proper amount. Over-fertilizing can result in chemical burns and more damaged grass.
- 3). Pull the grass up manually if you are removing small patches. If the dead grass takes up a small enough amount of space, the healthy grass will prevent the removed grass from being noticed.
- 4). Rake the lawn with a firm rake to remove dead grass that is present intermittently in a healthy lawn.
- 5). Dig any stubborn dead patches out of tough soil with a hand trowel. Moisten the soil first to make it easier to dig out.
- 6). Keep pets and other animals off the lawn as much as possible to prevent urine from damaging the lawn.
