Oil Field Inspection Tools
Riser Inspection
- Risers are pipes that carry oil from the seabed to an offshore production platform. They consist of several layers of plastic and steel. The risers must be flexible but can deteriorate under the stress of water movements and variable volumes of oil flowing through them. The rupture of a riser causes oil spills into the sea. The inspection tool consists of a multi-finger caliper and down hole camera. This is lowered along the riser pipe from the deck of the production platform to the seabed. It transmits information on material fatigue and leaks.
