    • 1). Go to the Audacity website and click "Download." Save the version of the software for your operating system to your hard disk before installing the application. Audacity allows you to open a WAV file and view it as an on-screen waveform; you can then divide the WAV file into separate files by selecting the desired divisions in the file and clicking "Project" and then "Add Label at Selection." When the file is saved, the WAV file will be divided at these points.

    • 2). Download Free Audio Editor. Once installed and running, Free Audio Editor can edit and divide WAV files into separate tracks by cutting away unwanted sound. You can save the new tracks to your computer hard disk for burning to CD or a number of other purposes. Free Audio Editor is only available for Windows computers.

    • 3). Go the the Rogue Amoeba website and purchase the full version of the Fission software. Using Fission, you can open and divide WAVs before saving them as separate files on your hard disk. Fission can also join files, boost volume, remove noise and trim unwanted material. The software is only available for Macintosh computers.
