How to Troubleshoot a Jet Pump Pressure Switch

    • 1). Lower the pressure switch setting if the pump does not shut off. If the switch does not work correctly or if it shutting off is not the problem, go to the next step.

    • 2). Inspect the switch contacts. Verify the contacts are not welded together. This could be caused by a gas electrical breakdown where a continual plasma discharge (arcing) is produced. If this has occurred, replace the defective switch. Otherwise, use an emery board and clean the contacts. If the switch does not work correctly or if it shutting off is not the problem, go to the next step.

    • 3). Remove the tubing to the pressure switch and unclog it if water pressure is too low. Blow through the tubing to clean it. If the tubing cannot be cleaned, replace it. If the switch does not work correctly or if it shutting off is not the problem, go to the next step.

    • 4). Check the line voltage if the pump does not deliver water or if the water pressure is lower or higher than normal (overheats). Use a voltmeter. If the voltage is lower than the recommended minimum, verify that the size of the wiring from the main switch is correct. Replace the wiring if the size is incorrect; otherwise, contact your local electrical power company for professional assistance.
