    Getting Financial Information

    • 1). Log into Google with your Google account. Click "More" at the top left of the page and click "Documents."

    • 2). Click the "Create New" button. Select "Spreadsheet."

    • 3). In the first row, type "Company"

    • 4). In the first cell of the second row type a company name.

    • 5). In the next cell type: "=GOOGLELOOKUP(A2, "Ticker")" to get the ticker symbol for the company.

    • 6). In the third cell of the row type "=GOOGLEFINANCE(B2, "price")" to get the current price of a share of the company.

    • 7). In the next cell type "=GOOGLEFINANCE(B2, "changepct")" to get the change in price for the share since the previous day's close.

    Getting News Feeds

    • 1). Place a list of recent news stories related to the company by going to a news page like Google in a new browser window.

    • 2). Type the name of the company and any other search terms you want. Click "News" in the top left of the page. Scroll to the bottom and right-click on the "RSS" link. Select "Copy Link Location."

    • 3). In the next cell of your spreadsheet type "=IMPORTFEED("URL"). Highlight "URL" and press "Ctrl-V" to replace it with the RSS feed you copied.

    • 4). Additional cells will be filled with latest news items from the feed you chose. Click on the lines between columns and rows at the top and the right side of the spreadsheet to modify the size of the cells as required.

    Finding and Using Other Functions

    • 1). Click on any empty cell of your spreadsheet.

    • 2). Click "Insert" above the spreadsheet. Select "Function," then click "More." A pop-up window opens in the Web page.

    • 3). Click "Google" on the left list of function groups. Scroll through the list on the right to see more available functions.

    • 4). Click on any function on the right. The code required for that function is displayed. Note the attributes required in brackets at the end of the code.

    • 5). Learn more about each function by clicking on the "More" link found at the bottom of the code instead of clicking on the code itself. A new window opens explaining the purpose of the function and what is required for the attributes.

    • 6). Click on the code to insert it into the spreadsheet cell. Type in the attributes you require.
