PCS exam has been delayed for some time as notified by PPSC. This could act as a blessing in disguise for the students who have been preparing for the same. The aspirants must make optimal use of this time to ensure that they clear this exam. We can broadly classify the students into two categories : One who have been preparing for this exam since long and have attempted the paper more than once and are aware of the nitters and gitters of the exam. The others are those fresher who will be writing it for the first time.   The General Studies Paper asked is very conventional type & thrust areas are History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science & Punjab. Some questions of Computer are also added. Small part of Current Affairs related to Punjab are also asked. The conventional Subjects should be prepared from basic books. Notes provided at SNM are more than enough to attempt the conventional portion. Both set of students should adopt a definite strategy for approaching this exam. The former if they feel that their basics are in place and don't need a lot of preparation for GS then they can work on two general areas

1. Maximizing their PCS score so that prelims definitely get cleared. This can be attained by improving their speed in CSAT. Join a mock test series for CSAT or practice at your home but within stipulated time. Time management is at the apex of this strategy. Aspirant should keep a track of his scores obtained in the mock tests and if steady improvement is not observed then more concept clarity is required.

2. IF GS and CSAT are both well covered and candidate is confident enough of cracking the prelims then beside joining a test series for PCS, (which will reflect the preparation) the aspirant should already start preparing for their mains. Newspaper reading, keeping track of the current affairs and continuous improvement in answer writing skills should be done. This becomes even more important as one is not sure about the amount of time one will get between prelims and mains as well as the fate of optional subject.

For freshers this is a golden opportunity to cover a lot of ground and prepare well for the prelims. They should try to improve their basics, Look at the trend of the previous year paper, identify their strengths and weakness and more importantly try to maximize their net score. They should go back to school i.e study the NCERTS thoroughly or can even pick the study material from SNM IAS. Students also have ample time for Ias preparation. This is also golden opportunity to take coaching and it can make a difference of 15-20 marks.
