    • 1). Water the Midnight Blue rose bush once daily in the morning for the first month or so while the plant is still establishing. Cut watering back to three to four times weekly once the plant has established its roots. Water for 15 to 20 minutes and keep the nozzle of the garden hose close to the ground beneath the bush to prevent the splashing of water. If the midnight blue rose bush wilts with this three to four times weekly watering schedule, increase waterings by one day per week to keep the plant healthy.

    • 2). Fertilize the Midnight Blue rose bush several times throughout the year with a fertilizer formulated specifically for roses. All-America Rose Selections recommends fertilizing when the leaves form on the bush each spring and after each new set of rose blossoms during the summer season, but not fertilizing after roughly mid-summer within two months of a frost. Use the recommended application amounts on the fertilizer packaging as a guide for the amount of fertilizer to apply to the rose bush.

    • 3). Cover the soil beneath and around the midnight blue rose bush with 2 to 4 inches of mulch in early spring. Do not let the mulch touch the base of the Midnight Blue rose bush directly. Instead, start the layer of mulch approximately 2 to 3 inches from the plant base on all sides.

    • 4). Deadhead roses as blooms wilt and prune the Midnight Blue rose bush as needed to keep the plant healthy and at a good size for your yard. After each set of midnight rose blossoms on the rose bush, pinch off flowers at the base by the stem as they begin to wilt to encourage the production of new flowers on the bush. During the dormant winter season, prune Midnight Blue rose bushes down to size by cutting branches back by up to a third of their length and cut off any dead or diseased limbs on the plant at the base by the central branch.
