    • 1). Verify that no mechanical issue exists. Ensure that your Universal Serial Bus (USB) adapter fits securely in place on your computer and that the power light illuminates, indicating power to the adapter.

    • 2). Click the "Start" button on your computer. Click the button on the right-hand side of your mouse and then choose "My Computer." Click the word "Properties," then "Hardware" and choose the "Device Manager" option. Find your particular adapter in the menu of choices that comes up on your screen under "Network Adapters."

    • 3). Click your mouse twice on your network adapter. Look for a red "x" on your adapter. If your device has a red x, right click on the adapter and then choose "Enable" to enable the device.

    • 4). Insert an Ethernet cord that goes from your desktop or laptop to any available port on your router if you still do not have the ability to get online.
