Changing the AP Configuration
The most common types of configuration tools for home/small office APs are:
- Software-based.
Some APs come with a software which will run on a workstation that allows one to set up the AP over a wireless connection, a USB cable, or an Ethernet cable.
- Web-based.
In order to configure each AP, you can use some forms stored in the firmware, like HyperText Markup Language (HTML; Web).
A Web browser will be enough.
If you didn't note down the address at the initial setup, keep in mind that it will appear as a number similar with 192.
147.

After you have found the AP's Ip address, type it in the Address line and then hit Go button.
During the initial setup you establish a password for the purpose of preventing unauthorized individuals from making changes to your wireless AP's configuration.
Now it's time to re-enter it and after that the AP's utility will display an AP management screen.
Once you've entered the management's utility you can modify settings such as SSID, the channel and the WEP encryption key.
But these options differ from one manufacturer to another.
In other cases the utility manager will ask you if you also want to perform actions like resetting the AP, upgrading its firmware and configuring any built-in firewall settings.
Periodically, the manufacturers of AP post software on their website in case that we choose to make updates.
Follow the procedures very carefully and remember: Do not turn off the computer or the AP while the update is taking place! Overall, changing the AP's settings is not a simple process.
You must perform it with maximum attention and the best practice is to modify AP settings only from a computer that's directly connected to the network or the AP by a network cable.
