    • 1). Place a lined plain curtain panel face down on the worktable. If you have tab-topped curtain panels you can remove the tabs as long as the curtain has the length you need.

    • 2). Measure the width of the curtain panel. Cut buckram (pinch pleating tape) the width of the panel using scissors. (Use 4-prong style tape.) Buckram is sold in most furniture stores or it can be ordered online.

    • 3). Pin the buckram to the top back side of the curtain panel. Measure 1/2 inch from the top edge. Center and pin the buckram to the panel. Turn each end under 1/2 inch and pin.

    • 4). Sew the sides of the buckram to the curtain panel. Note that the buckram panel for four-prong style drapery hooks has two layers. The layer facing upward is stitched to the lower layer creating vertical pockets. The lower layer extends above and below the upper layer to give you material to sew to the curtain. Sew from the left to the right across the top lower layer edge. Sew from the left to the right across the bottom lower layer edge. Do not sew over your vertical pockets on the upper layer.

    • 5). Position your header upward and horizontal on the table with the drapery in your lap. Find the left most pocket of the four-pocket sewn group on the upper layer. Place your four-prong hook with the hook upward. Slide the tip of one prong into each pocket. The pockets are spaced apart to create pleats so you may need to gather fabric between to line the prong up with the pockets. Slide all of the prongs in until the ends reach the end of the pockets. Repeat for each group of pleats.

    • 6). Turn the drapery over so that the finished side of the drapery is toward you. Adjust your pleats. Thread a needle and thread and sew a tacking stitch at the bottom of each pleated set. Pinch the three pleats together and sew the stitch through the sides several times until it is secure. Repeat for each set.
