How to Hang an Item on a Brick Wall
- 1). Put a masonry bit that is approximately 1/8-inch smaller than the screws or nails provided with the masonry hanger onto a drill. The packaging of the masonry hanger usually suggests the appropriate size drill bit for drilling a pilot hole, so consult the packaging if you need help choosing a bit size.
- 2). Wear safety goggles and drill a hole into the brick where you want to hang the item on the brick wall. When you finish drilling the hole, run a toothpick around the inside of the hole to loosen particles left behind and brush them forward out of the hole.
- 3). Press the plug or the anchor that comes with an anchored masonry hanger into the hole. You may need a hammer to tap some anchors fully into the hole. If you have an adhesive-style masonry hanger, squeeze adhesive into the pilot hole that you drilled, using the amount specified on the hanger packaging, before placing the plug into the hole.
- 4). Screw the screw provided with the masonry hanger into the anchored hole you created, or use the provided nail in the anchored hole. Screw or hammer the hardware into place until about 1/4-inch of the screw or nail sticks out from the wall. Hang the item on the screw or nail.
