How to Fertilize Zucchini
- 1). Apply a balanced, dry fertilizer, to the soil before planting zucchini. Iowa State University Extension advises that you use 1 to 2 lbs. of 10-10-10 fertilizer for every 100 sq. feet. Use a rake to rake it into the soil, and then spray it with a hose to water it in.
- 2). Fertilize again once you notice the fruit have started growing, advises Gardening at a Glance. This time, use a balanced (10-10-10) liquid fertilizer and follow the label directions regarding the amount to use, as this varies. Spray the fertilizer at the ground level, in the morning, to prevent burning the plants.
- 3). Feed zucchini with the liquid fertilizer every 3 weeks until the end of the growing season.
