How to Tell Which Side Goes Up With Wallpaper
- 1). Unroll one wallpaper strip to examine the pattern. Place at least 4 to 5 feet of wallpaper strip out flat so you can look at it closely.
- 2). Examine the pattern for clues for orientation. Some patterns are obvious and others are not. For example, flowers should grow up, so stems and leaves should go up the wall. Additionally, birds should fly up and not down the wall.
- 3). Hold the wallpaper strip up onto the wall if you cannot determine the orientation easily. If the pattern is a geometric or stripe, there may not be a "right" and "wrong" orientation, in which case you can decide the orientation based on your preference.
- 4). Check with the manufacturer, if possible. View the wallpaper online on the manufacturer's website or visit the store where you purchased the wallpaper to see the recommended orientation.
