How to Start a Dirtbike

1). Hold in the clutch on the bike. The clutch is located next to the handle grip on the left side, and looks like a silver lever.
2). Tap down on the gear shift lever with your toes until you cannot tap down anymore. This will put you into first gear.
3). Shift up one step. This will put you into neutral.
4). Set the kick starter on your dirt bike. This is the metal lever that sticks out of the right side of the bike. Set it so that the flat part of the lever is facing outward from the bike. Also, you need to make sure that the lever is at top dead center so that you can align the pistons of the dirt bike to start. All this means is that it needs to be set straight up and down.
5). Place your foot on the kick start lever. Rock the kick starter gently forward once or twice until you feel it stiffen up. This will mean that it’s ready to be kicked.
6). Kick down on the kick start lever. With any luck, it should turn the motor over and start. You may need to try a few times to get it started, however.
