3D Rally Games
- While there have been rally games before the advent of 3D graphics it really took the extra dimension to really bring the sport to life and accurately recreate the excitement of driving a high performance rally car. 3D rally games fall into two categories: arcade racing, whereby realistic handling and physics are eschewed for an easy to master but exacting to play experience, and simulations, where the slightest error in judgment can cause you your race position and in some cases your car.
- 3D Rally Racing is a free online flash game that gives you the choice between a Toyota Celica or Ford Focus before letting you loose on one of five different tracks. Initially most of the tracks are locked and can only be accessed by placing first on the available tracks. You will be racing against the clock as well as other rally cars on the track with you. Visually 3D Rally Racing looks really good for a flash title, and the gameplay is addictive enough to keep you hooked until all five tracks are conquered.
- If you prefer your 3D Rally Games to have a storyline, then Dirt 2 by Codemasters might just be the thing. - This title was the first rally racer to be created for the PSP in North America and is still one of the best on the system. The visuals are very good for a handheld system and there are plenty of cars and tracks to keep you playing without getting bored. The game is quite hard, however, so novices might struggle a bit. Critic reception has been mixed with some publications praising the difficulty, while others did not appreciate it. The game has a metascore of 67 out of a 100 based on the reviews of 18 critics and the individuals scores range from 90 to 50 out of 100.
- The Sega Rally franchise started out as an arcade racer back in 1995, but with this version Sega finally brought the series up to date. The biggest selling point of Sega Rally Revo is the deformable terrain courtesy of a system that Sega calls "GeoDeformation." What this means for gameplay is that soft surfaces like snow or mud will be influenced by the cars driving through it and can alter the racing line as deep ruts form in the tracks surface. The gameplay is more arcade than simulation however, and there is no car damage. The game received a score of 7.8 out of 10 on TeamXBox.
