In America the average family moves at least once every five or six years. That makes opening a moving company a good business decision. You can operate a moving business from anywhere, but before you get started you need to understand the basic requirements of the moving business.

When opening a moving business, you will need to make a plan before get your first client. There are many questions you need to answer for yourself ranging from large ideas to the smallest of details. Will you hire employees? Where will you find them? Will you ask them to wear uniforms? If you were thinking about starting up your business with a couple of pickup trucks, you might want to reconsider. Moving requires a lot of cargo room if you want to run your business efficiently. You will need to purchase a moving vehicle for your business. You'll need a truck equipped for large moving jobs. It must be fitted with the proper safety equipment including ramps, furniture dollies, harnesses, and packing materials to protect furniture and valuable from being damaged during shipment.

Who Will You Hire?

Hiring good movers requires a little more than asking your buddies at the bar to help you out on Saturday. You need dependable, reliable and strong employees to help you move large furniture and appliances. When you begin searching for new employees, you might find it's best to require a background search and ask for references. You will be entrusted with your customers' valuable possessions.

Do You Need Permits?

Chances are you will need to get permits and licenses for operating your business. If you operate large moving trucks, you and your other drivers will need to obtain a special drivers license. There is also a good chance that your city or local government office will require you to get a business license before you begin operations. Be smart, and get your business squared away legally before you take on your first job.

Insurance

Operating a moving business without insurance is a very bad idea. It only takes one accident to put you out of business. How would you compensate your customer if their prized painting was accidentally damaged? How would you take care of your employees if he or she was injured while on the job? Paying out-of-pocket for these types of accidents is impossible.
