How to Repair Galvanized Gutters
- 1). Scuff the metal that surrounds the leaking area with a wire brush to remove any debris.
- 2). Position a galvanized patch piece over the damaged area. The patch should cover the entire damaged portion. Trim the patch piece with metal snips if necessary.
- 3). Drill a hole through each corner of the patch piece and through the gutter. The holes will accommodate the patch rivets.
- 4). Apply a bead of rain gutter sealant around the damaged area and against the back of the patch piece with a caulking gun.
- 5). Press the patch over the damaged area, ensuring that the holes drilled through the patch piece align with the holes drilled through the gutter.
- 6). Secure the patch to the gutter by driving a rivet into each drilled hole with a rivet gun, then allow the sealant to dry according to the label's instructions.
