Madagascar Cake Ideas

    • To keep up with the theme of a Madagascar party, parents can purchase Madagascar decorations or invitations and even create a themed birthday cake. If you can bake a cake, you can make a homemade Madagascar cake on your own, too, although it might be a good idea to go to a baker if you doubt your skills.

    Simple Madagascar Cakes

    • If your cake-designing skills are not the best, use a simple Madagascar theme. First decide on the size cake you want to make such as a quarter sheet, half a sheet, whole sheet, 9-inch-round or other sizes. Once you choose the shape, bake the cake like you normally would. Apply the color icing of your choice, and then use decorating gel to write a message on the cake, like "Welcome to the Jungle" or "Birthday in Madagascar." Accent the cake with cake toppers (Madagascar-themed), which you can purchase different party stores and some retail stores as well. Some cake-topper kits include lions, palm trees, hippos, zebras, monkeys, giraffes and other Madagascar characters.

    Character Shaped Cakes

    • Perhaps your child has a favorite Madagascar character from the film. Surprise him with a cake in the shape of that character. If your child likes the chimps, you will need a regular box of cake mix, chocolate frosting, sprinkles, two cupcakes (store-bought or homemade), marshmallows and decorating gel. Once you have mixed the cake ingredients, shape the cake in a round pan. After the cake has cooled, place it in the center of a cake board. Take the two cupcakes and cut them in half and use them for ears on the chimp. Use the chocolate icing for the skin of the chimp and the marshmallows for a nose. If you prefer the sprinkles, use them to make a fur coat for the chimp.

    Alex the Lion Madagascar Cake

    • If you are making a Madagascar-themed birthday cake, your child or his guests have more than likely seen the films. Bake a cake that re-creates one of the famous themes in the film. If your son loves Alex the Lion, re-create one scene where Alex was performing at the New York City Zoo. To make the homemade Alex the Lion Madagascar cake, use a regular circle pan to bake your cake in. After the cake has baked, cut out the center of the cake a little to use as the edge of the wall. For the brick wall at the zoo, paint the very thin rolled fondant using the edge of a paint brush to represent the brick wall. For concrete, grass and cake wording, use decorating gel frosting.
