The Nokia N8 enables you to personalize its home screen with whichever features and widgets you wish. The interface can be set up and modified by you at any time, and the use of different widgets enables you to have the shortcuts you want, to the items on your phone you most use.

A widget is a simple, small application which typically performs one specific function, and on this handset could be something such as the latest news or the weather. There are many available for you to choose from, they can be searched for and downloaded from the Ovi Store, and then seamlessly added to the home display (the initial screen on your phone). Many of these are free of charge, however others may incur a small fee. In addition to this, it is also important to note that you can customise up to three separate home screens on this phone, all with different widgets depending on the different uses, for example you may have a social display, and a work display.

To add a widget to one of your N8 home screens is easy. Firstly, press and hold an empty part of the desired home you wish to add to, an addition symbol (plus sign) will appear to show you can add widgets. If this does not appear, it means that this screen is full, and you will have to remove one or more items first. Next, tap the Ovi Store icon in the displayed widget catalogue which allows you to see all that are available to you, while the store will let you download more. Once you have discovered a great new widget, select "Download". Once it is downloaded and installed, exit the store and you will see it in your catalogue, you can now add it to the home screen. By repeating the first process and tapping a current item, you can also then select "Remove" which removes a current widget from on of your screens, freeing up space for a new one.

The Nokia N8 is one of many handsets from the Finnish manufacturer which offers this impressive and simple user interface with easily customisable features, as part of its Symbian 3 operating system respectively. Being able to use multiple home screens for different situations, such as times and places, and create your own set of resources for each allows you to have a phone that works for you. As you can tell, editing and changing features on the handset are also extremely easy to do.
