The Working Environment As Seen Today

Happiness or Complacency.
The atmosphere within a working environment varies, usually brought about by the attitude of the management.
In a large office there is usually great concentration in the work, whereas in a small one where there are only one or two employees, there is usually a more congenial atmosphere and the staff has a much friendlier attitude to life.
In retail however, there is an entirely different method of operation.
The customer comes first, no matter what.
Now, that is the way it is supposed to be! Unfortunately, this is not always the case.
The method of "strive to please" seems to have fallen by the wayside and a less caring attitude seems to have become the norm.
Maybe this is because life has become so stressful that it has become an effort to be pleasant and helpful.
This is a sad reflection on modern life.
The relevant stress of a twenty-four hour period is such that the strain of it becomes too difficult to handle.
Nothing is worse than staff chatting and ignoring customers who are waiting for service.
It is so nice when you enter a store, with an inviting smile from the employees on duty to greet you.
This encouragement makes you feel that you want to shop there.
Then there is the question of staff loyalty.
In times gone by, your term of employment was more or less guaranteed for all your working lifetime.
This is now outdated, both from an employer and employee.
The norm being for people to flit from one job to another for whatever reason and long-term staying power gone.
This attitude has become a headache for most employers, upsetting staff stability.
Furthermore, it means that an excess of training has to be undergone to ensure that all the staff are knowledgeable on all merchandise and the daily running of their department.
Of course, much of this changing job problem is due to finances.
Today, everybody is undergoing a financial strain no matter what the salary is.
So, this does become understandable that if offered more pay by another firm, that it would be under consideration and very often accepted.
More pay does not mean a better working environment but does mean a better take home package at the end of the month.
No matter how much you earn you will still have money problems, as higher earners usually end up having higher lifestyles! Sometimes it is better to be happier in the workplace that you are in, than to be unhappy in working conditions where a high salary is earned.
So, when making a job change, give it careful consideration before making your final decision on the matter.
It is necessary to be content in your career choice, as otherwise your day to day attitude to work will only become a drudge, with no enthusiasm for what you are doing, likewise not giving of your best to those for whom you are employed.
In the future, the question is, are we going to become nations of robots or a world of productive people?
